Madison Police say they arrested a suspected car thief after he also allegedly stole a woman's purse.

Police were investigating after a car was stolen Christmas morning from outside of a Londonderry Dr. home. A woman had left it running outside to warm it up.

Saturday night around 8:20, police say a man abandoned that car at a Pflaum Rd. gas station. The thief stole another woman's purse, then ran away.

The woman was pumping gas and did not see the thief open her passenger door, but a clerk saw the crime happen.

A short time after the purse was swiped, police were called about a suspicious man lurking around parked vehicles in the 1300 block of Tompkins Dr. He was trying to get a ride, and matched the description of the thief provided by the gas station clerk.

Police found and arrested 19-year-old Donald Alford-Lofton. Officers say he had the gas station victim's cell phone and cash in his pocket, as well as a key to the stolen car.

He was arrested for Theft from Motor Vehicle, Operating a Motor Vehicle Without Owner's Consent and Possess Drug Paraphernalia.
