Press Release from the Whitewater Police Department:
On Monday, May 14, 2012 at approximately 6:00 p.m., Whitewater Police Department officers responded to a report of a burglary that included weapons taken from the residence. Officers were speaking with the victim when noises were heard from a vacated upstairs apartment. This was an upper and lower duplex residence. After repeated commands from officers went unanswered, officers took up positions around the residence and the Walworth County Tactical Team was deployed.
The Whitewater Police Department, along with the assistance of officers from the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater Police Department, the Walworth County Sheriff's Department and Jefferson County Sheriff's Department set up a perimeter and redirecting traffic from the area.
The Walworth County Sheriff's Department negotiators were successful in persuading the suspect in leaving the residence and surrendering. The subject came out of the residence and was taken into custody without incident at 9:03 p.m. The incident remains under investigation and charges will be sought through the Walworth County District Attorney's Office.
The Whitewater Police Department would like to thank the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater Police Department, the Walworth County Sheriff's Department, the Jefferson County Sheriff's Department and the Whitewater Rescue Squad for their assistance in the safe and peaceful resolution of the incident.
