From the Madison Police Department:

Incident Type:
Residential Burglary

Incident Date:
09/06/2012 - 10:27 PM

Address:
1000 block Friar Lane

Victim:
Female, age 58, Madison

Details:
She and her husband were watching the President's speech this past Thursday night when the 58-year old woman got up to use the bathroom. As she returned to the living room, she noticed her laptop computer was no longer on the desk in the study. It was at that point she realized a thief had cut a window screen and stolen her $1,600 MacBook Pro.

The criminal hit sometime between 9:30 p.m. and 10:15 p.m.

The woman was particularly distraught about losing some of her work. She was supposed to speak at an out-of-town conference, and the computer contained her presentation.

MPD crime analysts say the West District has seen a spike in residential burglaries over the past couple of months.
