Thief Steals Madison Woman's Wallet; Makes $1,800 in Purchases

Incident Type: Theft

Incident Date: 12/10/2012 - 5:00 PM

Address: 2502 Shopko Dr. (Copps Food Store)

Victim: Female, age 27, Madison

Details: A Madison woman contacted the MPD Tuesday morning after realizing someone had stolen her wallet the afternoon prior. She had been shopping at Copps Food Center, 2502 Shopko Dr. with her purse placed in a cart. The wallet was inside the purse, and she believes someone lifted it when she was not looking.

She realized she had been victimized Tuesday morning when a fraud alert email from a credit card company showed up. She quickly canceled her credit cards but not before a criminal rang up more than $1,800 worth of purchases at various locations.
