Details: Three men, who had been drinking together at a tavern last night, got into a dispute while walking on Lafollette Ave. near Talmadge St. early this morning. At least two got into a physical fight. One was battered in the head; the other was stabbed in the back with a small knife.
The man who was stabbed, a 50-year old Madison man, was transported to a hospital with non life-threatening injuries. The person with whom he was fighting, a 22-year old Madison man, told police that he was hit over the head with a brick or rock, and that he pulled the knife after being struck. It appears punches were also thrown by one or more of the men. Besides head injuries, the 22-year old also had cut fingers.
The third man, a 35-year old Madison man, was not injured. All acknowledged leaving a bar with the intent to do some late night socializing. What led to the violence was not clear as initial statements given by the three men were not consistent.
