UW Police officer injured in chase; Verona man arrested

A UW Police officer was injured after a pursuit overnight. A Verona man has been arrested in the incident.

A UW Police officer was injured after a pursuit overnight. A Verona man has been arrested in the incident.

Police say they tried to stop 21-year-old Neil Veitch near Randall Ave. and Dayton St. after seeing him driving erratically.

Officers say Veitch took off. Police chased him through campus streets until he crashed into a light pole on Campus Drive.

Police say Veitch ran away on foot, but officers caught up to him and took him into custody.

Veitch was taken to the hospital with minor injuries. The UWPD officer injured in the case has been treated and released from the hospital.

Officers say they have found various drugs in Veitch's vehicle believed to be mushrooms, heroin, marijuana and methamphetamine.

They also determined that Veitch was involved in a hit-and-run in Madison earlier in the evening,

Once released from the hospital, Veitch will be booked into jail on tentative charges of OWI, evading/eluding police, possession with intent to deliver and other charges.
