Madison is starting a month long fundraising campaign to pay for its first public swimming pool.
With less than a month to raise the money needed to fund the project, the city is asking its residents to dive in and donate. The question's not will there be a pool… but what size will it be.
Right now, the plan isn't set… because of money. To date, the city has raised about three–and–a–half million dollars… two–and–a–half from the Goodman donation… along with money from the city, corporate sponsors and the community. That's enough to build a facility that would hold 800 people… but the mayor says he wants to go bigger.
One of the efforts to raise the last chunk on money is a public fundraiser. It starts at the Wisconsin State Journal where thousands of Sunday papers will have a donation envelope inside.
The final figures for the pool funding will be tallied at the end of february. The groundbreaking deadline to keep the goodman donation is july first.
