A plan to build new housing in Madison's Allied Drive neighborhood got a hearing Monday night. The mayor says it would be a major step in revitalizing the area.

Under the proposal, a developer would buy the old Super Saver grocery store property, tear it down, and build high quality affordable housing in the area.

The store is a gateway to the neighborhood and is currently vacant.

Mayor Cieslewicz says the developer will also set aside land for a potential day care center and a new road. He says if the city fails to approve the proposal now, the store will sit empty for another year.
