Prevent Heart Disease

(Madison) "Heart disease can affect anyone, no matter who you are or what you do." That's the message Meriter Hospital is trying to get across to patients.

February is American Heart Month. Meriter Hospital is taking the opportunity to make everyone aware of the signs and preventive measures you can take against heart disease.

During an event Wednesday, people were treated to free cholesterol, HDL, and blood pressure screenings. A heart-healthy buffet was also provided.

Here are some of the early warning signs of heart attacks.

  • Chest pain or discomfort, pressure or squeezing sensation
  • Shortness of breath
  • Abnormal weak and/or fast pulse
  • Feeling faint or dizzy
  • Sweating, often heavy and cold
  • Nausea or upset stomach
  • Anxiety
  • Fatigue
