Feingold Eying White House?

Video will be available shortly.

Wisconsin Senator Russ Feingold has the reputation of being a maverick senator. Now, that maverick might have his eye on the White House.

Feingold tells the Milwaukee Journal–Sentinel he would consider running for president in 2008 if he thought he had a real shot at winning the Democratic nomination.

But a University of Wisconsin Madison Political Scientist says that could be a tough shot for a couple of reasons, like candidates with more money and more name recognition.

“He is someone that has some kind of a national recognition because of the work he's done on campaign finance reform,” says University of Wisconin Political Scientist Ken Mayer. “But obviously outside Wisconsin people are less likely to have heard about him. He's dealing with other candidates, many of whom ran in 2004 John Edwards, Howard Dean, possibly John Kerry.”

Most of Feingold's name recognition comes from his sponsorship of the McCain Feingold Campaign finance reform bill.
