Some UW students fear the Governor's budget takes more than it gives to the university system.

The Governor's budget calls for University of Wisconsin to cut 200 administrators but gain 125 faculty.

Governor Doyle says the UW System is one of the finest in the country, and should also remain one of the most affordable. He says his budget keeps tuition increases between 5 - 7-percent for each of the next two years.

But some students say the rising cost of tuition hurts the school's diversity. Charlies Hoyt is a senior at the University. “We need an accessible university to all. University money to go to University and not increase prison spending.”

But Doyle says this budget marks the first time in more than ten years a budget adds more to the UW System and financial aid than to corrections. The Governor says his budget increases financial aid 34-percent, or by $23 million.
