Madison Catholics Pray for Pope

Thoughts and prayers are once again with the Pope Thursday night, as he recovers from surgery.

Doctors performed a successful tracheotomy to ease his breathing.

The procedure came after the Pontiff was rushed to the hospital Thursday morning with a relapse of the flu, something he was hospitalized for earlier this month.

The Pope's last hospitalization set off concerns among the faithful as to whether a papal resignation is in order.

Despite the 84-year-old's ailing health, local Catholics attending this evening mass in Madison, say he will know when he needs to step down.

“They thought ten years ago he had problems and look at him, pray does work, ten years later he is still going,” says Don Leonard.

“I think he knows best. He's not a dumb person, and I think he will do the best he can, and I know he will know when it is best for him to say adios,” says Nancy Lager.

Both people we spoke with have been able to see the Pope in person.
They said his illness prompted them to attend this evening mass so they could pray for the Holy Father.
