Madison police say they have recovered the knife used in a stabbing Monday night. One man is dead and another is in custody after the altercation on Madison's east side.

Madison Police say it happened just after 8 p.m. on the 4700 block of Cottage Grove Road.

Authorities tell NBC 15 the victim and suspect appear to have known each other.

Officers say there was an altercation prior to the stabbing and the victim received stab wounds to the chest.

"When we responded, they did transport on individual to the hospital. His condition right now, he is deceased. We do have a suspect in custody. And we don't believe that there is any other danger to the community," says Officer Laura Walker.

The suspect, DeWayne K Allen, was charged with first-degree intentional homicide.
