A 17-year-old boy is in police custody, and Sun Prairie Police want to know if he is the person who fired shots into the air Thursday afternoon.

It happened near Sun Prairie High School in the middle of the street, near the corner of Union and Main Streets. Officers blocked off the area.

Shell casings at the scene indicate that two bullets from a 22–caliber pistol were fired.

It happened in an area that police say is usually quiet. "We're very close to the high school. We have a lot of juvenile traffic, because of the proximity of the high school it normally isn't an area of danger or anything other than that," says Rem Brandt from the Sun Prairie Police Department.

Fortunately no one was hurt.

Police are still investigating, and charges are pending for the 17-year-old boy they have in custody.
