(AP) Republicans sent Democratic Governor Jim Doyle a bill Friday that would slightly reduce average property tax bills in Wisconsin, but the Governor vetoed it as soon as he got back from a trade mission to Mexico Friday night.
The GOP controlled Legislature passed the bill last month, but lawmakers held off sending it to the Governor, saying they hoped to
convince him to sign it.
Aides say Doyle vetoed the bill on his return to the state, on grounds that it would hurt public education.
Doyle has proposed his own plan to limit property taxes that
includes pumping an additional $850-million into public schools.
