(NBC15) A teenager has been arrested for poisoning his family with rat poison. Jamie Auck, 15, of Poynette was arrested (Wednesday) for three counts of attempted homicide.

The Columbia County Sheriff's office says Auck was placing the poison in the food and liquid consumed by his mother, stepfather and half sister. He had apparently been doing this for five weeks. The victims thought they were ill with the flu but noticed some odd tasting coffee and some foreign particles in the coffee, and called police.

Detective Jay Yerges says, "It's very shocking because you have a very young individual who obtained something that is do readily accessible. You can go to any grocery store or hardware store and obtain a toxic agent and put in a food source.

Auck was in court today and is being charged as an adult. He is currently being held at the Columbia County Jail.
