On Friday, gas prices will go up another 8/10th of a penny because of a tax increase. It's one that has one lawmaker looking for a tax break.

Every April the state gas tax automatically goes up by just a little bit. The increase is tied to the Consumer Price Index and has gone up each year without a vote since 1985.

That's why Representative Spencer Black is introducing a bill that would repeal the automatic increase.

Black says taxes shouldn't be going up in Wisconsin without a vote by the legislature. "Since the automatic gas tax increase went into effect taxpayers in Wisconsin have paid $32 billion in taxes that were never approved by the legislature."

Black says Wisconsin has the second highest gas tax in the nation. Money raised from the gas tax is primarily used to build roads.
