Madison's increased minimum wage may soon be a thing of the past.
Wednesday, the state senate approved a bill that would bar municipalities from raising the minimum wage above the statewide level of $5.15 an hour.
The bill would also preempt cities from requiring government contractors to pay what the city considers living wages.
Governor Doyle says he will veto the bill if it is passed by the Assembly and sent to him for signing.
He says he will only support preemption, if republicans allow the statewide minimum wage to increase to $6.50.
