A Beloit man facing a charge of attempted first degree murder is found guilty of a much lesser charge.

Justyn Fischer, 29, was found guilty of first degree reckless endangerment and battery to a police officer. A jury returned that verdict after deliberating for about two hours Thursday.

Fisher stabbed a Janesville police officer several times with a screwdriver after the officer found Fischer allegedly trying to break into a car. That fight happened in May of last year.

Because Fisher used a screwdriver as a weapon, and is considered a habitual criminal, he could be sentenced to up to 30 years in prison on each count.
