Fire Danger High Across State

The danger of wildfires is growing across the state. And that has the Department of Natural Resources taking action.

The DNR says the potential for wildfires is extremely high and it has suspended burning permits in 20 counties. Fire officials say even a spark from a running vehicle in tall dry grass may be enough to start a wildfire.

"There are a lot different causes of fires," says Blair Anderson of the DNR. "Our objective is to make sure people are aware of the situation out there. It is dry."

The DNR has already responded to nearly 400 fires this year that have burned 1,000 acres. The latest big fire was Wednesday when a fire burned 200 acres in Hartmann Creek State Park in Waupaca County.
