Arson the cause of St. Raphael's fire

One month ago Thursday, residents of Madison woke up to find a historic cathedral shooting flames high into the sky.
Friday, the man accused of starting that fire is in court.

William Connell is accused of setting the fire that gutted St. Raphael's Cathedral. Friday, a preliminary hearing was held to see if he should stand trial. That hearing lasted for about an hour.

Three witnesses testified, and the court found probable cause.
That means Connell will stand trial on felony charges of Arson and Burglary.

Connell then entered a plea of not guilty by reason of mental disease or defect.

Connell was arrested just days after the fire that gutted the cathedral after he called police to tell them he had information about the fire.
