If you Could Save Time in a Bank....


You may be able to get more than a good feeling for your volunteer work in the future.

It's all part of a proposed Madison program called the Time-Bank. It works like this: If you do a good deed like mentoring or tutoring someone
you get a credit that is recorded at the Time Bank. You can cash that credit in later for a service from someone else, a city service or a cooperating business.

One of the organizers says they are modeling their Time Bank after successful programs in other big cities. Stephanie Rearick says not only will the Time Bank allow people to get services without cash, but it's a great way to help other people and be rewarded for it.

"Our sense of community has dwindled," says Rearick. "This puts in a systemic reinforcement to community ties anywhere where people want to make more connections to their neighbors."

Rearick says they're trying to raise funds to start up the program…
