Were Drinks Spiked at Teen Dance?

Video will be available shortly.

Darlington: 7th grader Marena Bahena was attending a teen dance last Friday in the basement of the Ranch House Bowling Alley.

She had been drinking non–alcoholic kiddie cocktails, when she suddenly got sick. "I had like six of them. I didn't think anything was going to happen. After that one it hit me and I started puking like constantly."

Marena wasn't the only one. "My friends started getting sick and everything."

According to Marena, five girls got sick and three went to the hospital.

Later that night, mother Traci Bahena was told it might not be an accident. "The dispatcher from the sheriff's office called and said they thought it was a drug and it take about an hour to get out of their system by throwing up."

Traci was concerned someone slipped the date rape drug GHB in the girl's drinks while they were dancing. "There was just too many kids being sick to be coincidental."

Lafayette County Sheriff Scott Pedley says they don't know. "The symptoms for the most part are not indicative of GHB. We'll wait for some lab results to come back before we make up our minds."

The manager of the Ranch House says they don't keep any alcohol downstairs during the dance, and his bottles of grenadine were fresh that night. He says whatever the girls got sick on it didn't come from his bar.

Sheriff Pedley says they have no evidence someone spiked the drinks. "We don't have a suspect at this point that was seen as having placed any substance in any drinks."

Sheriff Padley says he expects to get the lab results back later this week.
