A flat tire on a getaway car helped police catch three suspects after an assault and robbery in downtown Madison.
Police say the alleged victim was walking in the 500 block of East Mifflin Street around 9 p.m. Monday night when three people approached with a gun and baseball bat and demanded property. The suspects then reportedly punched the victim, took the victim's cell phone and got into a waiting vehicle.
Fortunately, the victim noticed that their vehicle had one flat tire.
Madison police were able to use that information to find the suspects.
PIO Mike Hanson says, "Officers in the area were searching for these suspects and then came across somebody that was changing a tire in the Buckeye parking lot, so from there the officers were able to identify and match the descriptions of the suspects and effectuate an arrest."
The three suspects arrested are Derrick L. Moore, Shene A. Holmes, and Nettia A. Smith. They are all charged with armed robbery.
