"There is about 89,000 ballots that are in the process of being reprinted," tells Roger Price of the Madison Metropolitan School District.

Parents were hit with the news at an afternoon ball game.

"It is very disappointing to hear that happen," says Marcy Doelp.

Disappointing and costly, but Scott Shimanski notes, "it is unfortunate, but spread out over the whole city of Madison per person what is that number."

We don't that number yet, but City Clerk, Bob Ohlsen, estimates that the reprint could cost $30,000. At Wisconsin Graphics they are printing out corrected ballots, but if you requested an absentee ballot you are stuck with the wrong one.

"The ballots will need to be taken as they were printed, and received back accordingly," explains Price.

That means at least 2200 absentee voters could cast the incorrect ballots, and if Tuesday's election is a close call, those votes could come under fire.

Kirby Brant is against the referendum, and is already crying foul play.

"At the eleventh hour at almost quitting time on Friday, the weekend before the election, it is just another example. I know people who when they heard this, the very first thought was they set it up, they set up an out," says Brant.

Arlene Silveira is for the referenda and says, "we really need to be focusing on the issues and explaining to citizens the meaning behind the three questions. This is going to take over the news and people will be focused on this rather than the issues at hand."

The school district says correct ballots will be available for voters at all 77 polling places on Tuesday. But it will be a problem if this is a close election, then the absentee ballots will have to be re-evaluated.
