The Federal Aviation Administration says one person is dead after a small, home-built plane crashed into a field in the northern Illinois town of South Beloit.
FAA spokesman Tony Molinaro says the Searay plane crashed around 6:20 p.m. Tuesday.
He says the pilot, who was the only person on board, died in crash.
Molinaro says F-A-A investigators are on their way to the scene.
South Beloit is about 18 miles north of Rockford on the Illinois-Wisconsin state line.
