Madison Alder Accuses State Officials of Illegal "Logrolling"

One Madison alder is accusing our top politicians of improperly wheeling and dealing surrounding the minimum wage.

The alder says Governor Doyle is illegally trading favors with Republicans in the legislature.

Alderman Austin King (District 8) has filed a nine–page complaint with Attorney General Peg Lautenschlager. King says the Governor is "logrolling" with Republicans on the minimum wage issue. Meaning, he will support their minimum wage pre–emption bill, if republicans agree to let the statewide minimum wage increase next week.

Politicians are often accused of negotiating support for bills, but logrolling is a serious accusation.

King says, "We're alleging a class one felony, which is what logrolling is considered under our state statues. And that's to be taken very seriously. So we expect this matter to probably work its way to the court eventually."

Governor Doyle has said it is not logrolling because he is in favor of the minimum wage preemption bill, but only if there is a statewide raise first.
