No Buildings Plans for Madison School District

One board member says voters missed an opportunity to build a much needed school on property the district already owns.

School board member Bill Keys made this rough sketch of how people voted for question one. It asked voters to approve spending $14.5 million for a new school at Leopold Elementary, which is overcrowded.

Keys says, "What they are going to do is push the number of students in these schools up to their capacity and make it necessary if we're gonna operate schools not over capacity to build another school over here sooner. Putting a school here was essential to give these schools more life before we go back for another one."

The referendum's defeat means the board will consider boundary changes.
