Capitol Race

Video will be available shortly.

Eighteen months ago it was perhaps the most anticipated athletic event of the year in Madison.

Radio talk show host Mitch Henck taking on Mayor Dave Cieslewicz in a footrace around the Capitol Square.

But then the controversy; the race ended in a tie, although Henck still claims victory to this day.

Was there a fix?

In order to take some of the stain off that race two summers ago, the two combatants met again at high noon under the shadow of the Capitol Dome.

They're both two years older now, and probably a couple of steps slower, but the competitive fire still runs deep in both these highly trained, toned athletes.

This time, there's no tie. Mayor Dave turns on the burners at the end, crossing the finish line first. "He was doggin' it. He had me lured asleep, and then he started complaining, oh it was all down hill, when the hill comes up I'm just going to die, I stopped and talked to people, shaked people's hands, I ordered Lunch over there, and then he kicks in the afterburners going up the hill."

Henck says, "I tried to trip him, but he was too quick."

The two men are planning another competition, this one on the golf course.
