State Continues Negotiations With Ho-Chunk Nation

Video will be available shortly.

Wisconsin continues to deal with a budget shortfall. And the state continues to negotiate with the Ho–Chunk nation, looking for millions of dollars promised in a gaming compact agreement.

The tribe says it doesn't have to pay 30 million dollars to the state because it hasn't added games originally included in the new gaming compact. The state had hoped to receive payment by the end of the fiscal year in June.

But that hasn't happened, and the state and the tribe are still negotiating.
"We're continuing to collect from all tribes but one," says Gov. Jim Doyle. "Only the Ho–Chunk have not sent in their payment, but they've set it aside."

Gov. Doyle says, if necessary, the state will go to arbitration with the Ho–Chunk in an effort to get its money.
