Bill Proposed to Protect Moral and Ethical Beliefs of Doctors

The so-called conscience clause bill is heading to the Assembly floor.

The measure would prevent employers from punishing health care workers or med students for refusing to perform procedures such as abortions, sterilizations, euthanasia, or handling fetal tissue.

Republican lawmakers say the bill would expand on a current law that only provides protections for abortion and sterilization.

But Planned Parenthood says it violates the code of ethics, and it places the needs of patients below the personal beliefs of health care providers.
