On your marks, get set, go! Kids race to the finish line of the year's first summer fun run. It kicked of the Kid's Summer Fun Run Series.
There are four kid runs planned throughout Madison this summer,
with courses set up in traditional cross-country style, including hay bails to jump over.
The effort is part of the Fit City Madison health initiative and in addition to being health, organizers want the kids to have fun. Organizer Andy Downin says, "there's such a bad stigma behind running, people think its painful and its torture, and its punishment so we wanted to show them running can be fun."
There are three runs left on the schedule. The next is on July ninth at Penn Park. Then the Capitol Mile is scheduled for July 23rd. Finally, August 13th, the last run will be held at Elver Park.
