In just a few days the fields at Warner Park will be filled with 300,000 people gathered to take in the spectacle known as Rhythm and Booms.

Our summer dry spell had organizer Terry Kelly a little worried, but recent rainstorms have greened up the place.

"Warner Park is in excellent shape. I was out there yesterday and I think the fire danger in the park is quite low, especially after the recent rain," says Kelly.

Kelly says the biggest fire hazard now isn't the fireworks display, but the people. "We could cause fires if people bring in fireworks or sparklers, both of which are prohibited from the park at Rhythm and Booms, or things like charcoal grills."

The Dane County Sheriff's Department has concerns as well. They're worried about people setting fireworks off in their own backyard. "I think with the dry conditions people should be extra cautious. One tip we tell people is to keep a bucket of water handy when they're using fireworks and that kind of thing, because you never know when sparks can start something, if it's not the grass, something else nearby," says spokesperson Elise Schaeffer.

Schaeffer says illegal fireworks are just as dangerous as the legal ones. "We know that people are going to use them. There are some that are legal to use but you should use caution because even the legal ones like sparklers can be dangerous. Sparklers burn at 1800 degrees so even though they're a fun thing for kids to play with they can be very dangerous."

Kelly says this year's Rhythm and Booms is supposed to be bigger and better than ever. The fireworks fly at Warner Park Saturday at dusk.
