The family of the latest Wisconsin Marine to die in Iraq remembers his life. Lance Corporal John Mattek Junior of Antigo died from wounds he received in combat.
A college friend says Mattek felt like he wasn't doing enough with his life, so he decided to enlist in the Marines. Mattek was a student at UW Stevens Point.
His family adds, he gave 100 percent to everything he did.
"He wants everyone to know there is good reason why he was there, why all of his fellow soldiers and Marines are there," says his mother Marsha. "He never complained, he was not a self person, he was a selfless person."
Mattek is the 39th Marine or soldier from Wisconsin that has been killed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.
