"It was obviously a huge shock. We weren't anticipating 10 thousand dollars," says Deerfield High School chemistry teacher, Mark Klawiter.

But 10 thousand dollars is exactly what students and teachers at Deerfield High School won in the form of a shopping spree for new classroom technology from Best Buy.

"We'll be purchasing either laptops or projectors for the classes."

It all started with a class project where students were learning how to make their own biodiesel fuel combining the things they were taught in four classes: Chemistry, Tech Ed, Computer Science and Biology.

"The project was to harvest our own soybeans and turn them into a biodiesel fuel which would in turn run a rototiller to fertilize the soil," says high school junior, Steven Moerke.

The students' teachers wanted to enhance their learning experience and applied for the grant hoping for the best. They were one out of 50 schools selected across the country. The new technology will help in the classroom.

"To provide funding innovative technology, science projects, things that will make kids excited and interested in learning," says Klawiter.

The students were more than excited to help pick out the new laptops, printers and other supplies they will purchase with the money. They only which they had a few more years left in school to use it all.

"I've accomplished quite a bit in this class and you know it's nice to help other people out too I suppose," says high school senior, Charlie Steen. "It's just a wonderful place to be and to learn and grow."
