Madison Metro joins the many businesses making the move to accept plastic.

Starting Friday Madison metro will start converting paper and monthly passes to new magnetic cards. The cards look like credit cards and users insert the card into the fare box and the technology tracks which routes people are using and how often they are using them so the Metro officials can get a better idea of how to serve the public.

Marketing Specialist Mick Rusch says, "We’re not trying to be big brother or anything we're just using the information to see where everybody boards so we can better plan our routing. It's for customer improvement is our goal."

People can start buying and using the magnetic passes on Friday, but you will still be able to use your paper passes and quick tickets after Friday. There are no fare increases associated with the change over.
