State government wants to work closer with 11 national governments all located here in Wisconsin.
To that end, Gov. Jim Doyle signed consultation policies designed to help state government, and the governments of Wisconsin's 11 tribal nations, work more efficiently. Basically, the policies will help keep state and tribal governments from stepping on each other's feet when it comes to making policy.
Gov. Doyle says, "Tribes for years have teamed with state agencies to help target programs for those populations that need them most. Establishment of these state tribal consultation agreements will improve the process helping to avoid duplication and streamline services."
The policy guidelines were developed by the 11 tribal nations in Wisconsin, along with 12 Cabinet agencies in state government.
