WEAC Rally

Once again Gov. Doyle is showing his distaste for the Republican's version of the state budget.

On Thursday, the Governor told members of the Wisconsin Education Association Council that while education is his first priority, the republicans put it last.

According to Doyle, legislators are cutting schools so severely that they will have no choice but to turn to local property taxpayers.

He says, "if state legislators really support local property taxpayers, more than just paying lip service to this, the way they do it is to fund two thirds of the full cost of education in the state of Wisconsin."

Republican legislators say they are going to make education the highest priority in the budget while giving taxpayers a budget they can afford.

WEAC members were at the capital this afternoon lobbying against that plan.
