The residents of McFarland have a new place to honor its veterans this July 4th weekend.
American Legion Park is the new home to the McFarland Veterans Memorial. During the past six years, organizers raised nearly $80,000, as they sought to honor soldiers from the area.
Darrell Kremz says his desire to create such a memorial developed after he spent 38 months as a POW in Korea. "I was pretty weak and I saw the American flag and went over to the pole and I couldn't leave it."
Kremz says he hopes to raise another $20,000 for the memeorial.
