The city of Milwaukee may be the next in line to put a smoking ban in place.

An alderman's proposal would ban smoking in workplaces, bars, restaurants and most buildings in Milwaukee. If it's approved, the city would adopt a smoke-free approach that is among the tightest in the nation.

Alderman Joe Davis is to unveiled his plan at a news conference this morning. He says, "The key thing here is to make sure that those who do not engage in these activities have a choice and they also are protected by a good piece of legislation."

Mayor Tom Barrett has said he is reluctant to ban smoking in bars and other places where many patrons expect to be able to light up.

Davis has scheduled public meetings to discuss his proposal.
