Books, Backpacks and BadgerCare

Video will be available shortly.

It's back to school time. Time to make sure your students have their books, their backpacks, and their health insurance coverage.

Supporters of BadgerCare and other low income health insurance options gathered today at Wright Middle School in Madison to remind parents about the importance of health care coverage for their kids.

In 2003, an estimated 85,000 children in the state had no health insurance. A quarter of them never received any health care during that year. And half of those 85,000 were eligible for health care.

Monday, those promoting BadgerCare say insurance is just as important as textbooks.

“Health insurance can give students the healthy start they need to begin the school year right,” Says Madison Metropolitan School Board Vice President Johnny Winston, Jr. “So just like backpacks, notebooks, and school supplies, BadgerCare needs to be on a family's back to school list this summer.”
