Residents in the Allied Drive neighborhood are benefiting from a new development project on Verona Road.
Monday, people packed inside the old Supersaver building for a neighborhood job fair.
The event was organized by the Gorman Company and the Allied-Dunn's Marsh Neighborhood Association.
The Gorman Company is redeveloping the Supersaver site into an affordable housing complex. This led the two agencies to team up in hopes of helping local residents benefit from the project.
"I think one of the things that the neighborhood has said repeatedly is they wanted to maintain the character of what's positive here," says Chris Laurent, of Gorman Company. "There's a lot of diversity, and I think the trick for the city of Madison and for us is to try to make some changes here that send a new message while retaining some of what's positive."
About fifty local employers set up tables to participate in today's event.
Construction on the apartment complex is set to begin in a couple of months.
