Some Changes in Store for Metro Bus Riders

The ongoing saga of whether or not to boost bus fares by a quarter continued Wednesday night.

The Transit and Parking Commission met to make a final decision.

Before they made it official, TPC heard some last minute pleas.
The Mayor sent a memo saying: "If you do the difficult and right thing to increase fares, I will do the equally difficult thing of trying to locate more city resources for Metro... if you fail to raise fares, I will not seek additional funding."

"The Mayor's memo certainly put it in type that whether to increase fares is not an option. I hope you all still consider how much to increase them," says Michael Jacob, a concerned citizen.

"(Tuesday) night's votes were inconclusive, so it's really unfair that you should have to draw the conclusions that our own city council couldn't," says Lisa Subeck, another concerned citizen.

But they did come to a conclusion... The TPC has decided to let adult, senior, and disabled fares stay at a $1.50. But the price for a 10 ride swipe card will increase from $11 to $12, and monthly passes will go from $39 to $47.
