Families of Wisconsin National guard troops gather this morning for a ceremony and emotional send off.
More than 500 troops from Madison, Fort Atkinson, Baraboo, Reedsburg and other nearby communities left this morning from Volk Field. The 2nd battalion, 128th infantry is headed to Camp Shelby, Mississippi for several months of training. Members will then deploy overseas for a year long assignment.
Thousands of family members gave their hugs and well wishes. Also on hand to say goodbye were Governor Jim Doyle and senior military officials.
More than 3,000 Wisconsin Army and Air National guard members are now on active duty.
