Ironman Triathalon Race Countdown

Some 2,000 athletes will take to the lake and the streets this Sunday. Ironman Wisconsin Triathlon starts bright and early in downtown Madison Sunday morning, and runs until late that night.

As many as 50,000 spectators are expected to come out and watch the triathletes swim 2.4 miles, bike 112 miles, and then run 26.2 miles.

If you're going to watch the race, or need to be in the downtown area for other reasons Sunday, event organizers suggest you check out their website for some important tips.

Shane Facteau from Ironman Wisconsin Triathlon says, "one of the things we've done is posted all of our traffic information on our website at Ironman Wisconsin dot com. There's actually a downloadable file, telling all about the road closures in downtown Madison, as well as the surrounding areas, as well as alternate routes people can take."

Ironman organizers say the best place for athletes and spectators to park is the Alliant Energy Center. There will be a Park & Ride service running from the Center during the event.
