Walter, you probably have some cozy desk job and love to Monday-morning quarterback. Your comment about MPD finally solving a crime is just ridiculous. Do them a favor, never call if you need them, you're not worth the time.

Carola, I certainly don't mean any disrespect but I'll gladly play the numbers. To me the odds are greater that you could be killed or sustain great bodily harm if you are not armed should an intruder break into your home and you are there. Protecting oneself doesn't make one a vigilante. We are protected by the law (priveledge) to use whatever force is necessary to protect ourselves. This isn't England, yet. Gangs, crime, drug use and dealing etc. will exist come feast or famine. Drug treatment? Well, treatment and change comes within, you can't force it. And we certainly should stop wasting money to pay for such programs. People that want to get help find it irregardless.

Hey Walter don't knock it. Sometimes its little things like this where they stumble onto the bigger stuff. Take anything they give you and be happy. Always remember its a start and this is a heck of a lot better than not finding these thugs at all!!

That's just good old-fashioned police work. Once the dust settles, I'm sure it'll be known that these guys were responsible for many of the E Wash robberies. Good job and thanks from those of us who appreciate all you do and the risks you take on a daily basis, as we were reminded of during Law Enforcement Memorial Week in Sun Prairie and other communities.

Its a shock, MPD actually solved a crime.

Posted by: Carola Location: MADISON on May 9, 2008 at 11:17 PM
Keeping a gun in your home increases the likelihood of getting killed by one by 64%. No thanks. Does anyone think this is related to the economy and also to missing jobs and drug treatment? Or is everybody reading these news vigilante??

did anyone notice 4 the stories above are CrimeTrack 15.. and 3 are muder updates..... and 1 violence... how depressing

Posted by: Anonymous on May 8, 2008 at 11:50 AM
Posted by: Anonymous on May 6, 2008 at 11:51 AM Completely the opposite... but thanks for "clearing things up"... Concealing a weapon in wisconsin is illegal and there is no permit available for this. You can legally holster a gun in plain view but can not be loaded. You can however carry the loaded clips right in your pocket.

Are we under the assumption that these criminals are as novice and naive as we are? No, they are trained, family criminals from places like Orlando, New Orleans, Chicago. They are starting to move in to Madison in huge numbers. When you see a car on the belt-line with dents, no suspension, and everyone wearing caps looking straight forward, you are looking at ILLEGAL ALIENS. Our city is full of them, they don't work here because it is illegal. They are here to rob us because the picking is easy. Then they take their goods and go back to the city they came from. No clues, no concequenses!

Posted by: amazed Location: dane county on May 6, 2008 at 12:45 PM
Some good posts here! Yes, get training! Carrying any weapon is a huge responsbility; even if it's simply a club. No, Wisconsin doesn't legally allow CCW. They do allow open carry, but not concealed. 48 of the 50 states allow some form of CCW. Illinois and Wisconsin are the lone exceptions. Heck, in Alaska and Vermont you don't even need a permit; you just have to be able to legally purchase a firearm.

Posted by: Anonymous on May 6, 2008 at 11:52 AM
Please, if you are going to carry, take lessons! A gun in untrained hands is just a hand-out to a thug!

Posted by: Anonymous on May 6, 2008 at 11:51 AM
Let's clear this up. We have a conceal and carry law. You need a permit to do it and it can not show. What they are arguing for is being able to carry the gun in view. I don't think that this is a good idea as it makes for pretty easy shopping for the crooks. It is also intimidating to carry a gun in public.

Posted by: Anonymous on May 6, 2008 at 10:24 AM
How do you geniuses come to the conclusion that conceal and carry will make things worse? I just don't get it. Almost every state has it and there is ONE record of murder by a person with a conceal and carry permit. It's time to put guns in the hands of LAW ABIDING citizens. Conceal and carry does NOT put guns in the hands of criminals. They already have them.... they are criminals, they don't care about laws. How can people be so stupid... its painful... I'm just going to start carrying one in a holster or conceal anyway.

Anyone with information should contact crime stoppers because the police can't figure anything out on their own!

Posted by: amazed Location: dane county on May 6, 2008 at 08:21 AM
Anon @03:17 - 2 words for you: I AGREE!! We should all have the right to protect ourselves the way we wish. Will concealed carry help? Don't know, but it should be the right of all responsible citizens to protect themselves the way they choose. Personally, I'd rather think a responsible citizen is carrying. Right now, we know only the criminals are carrying. I'm more afraid of a criminal than I am a responsible citizen. Pete, good point about what they seem to be wearing - hadn't thought of that before, but I'll definately look for red bandanas now.

Posted by: Anon on May 5, 2008 at 09:16 PM
With the economy and job market, as a people, we can expect more of this! God bless and amem!!!

Posted by: Pete on May 5, 2008 at 04:22 PM
Is it just me or do a lot of these criminals seem to be wearing hoodies and red bandanas? I may be wrong, but it seems like the gangs are starting to become more of a force in madison....and thats not good. I moved out of chicago for a reason! I don't think conseal and carry would help..it would make matters worse! Its time to bring back old fashioned neighborhood watches and start watching eachothers back. Lets not let the gangs take over!

Posted by: Anonymous on May 5, 2008 at 03:17 PM
I HAVE 2 WORDS FOR YOU CONSEALED CARRY!!!

Posted by: amazed Location: dane county on May 5, 2008 at 01:39 PM
Anon @ 1148 - I agree. Businesses should have the right to protect their livelihood from scum that attempts to rob them. Seems like it's always the criminals catching the breaks, doesn't it? Time for that to stop.
