On July 1st an employee of a Dane County based temporary employment agency reported to Madison Police that he had been attacked by a fellow worker at a Lien Road job site around 1:15 p.m. on June 30, 2008.
The victim reported that he was initially reluctant to report the battery for fear of jeopardizing his employment. He told officers that he and others were working near loading docks of a company when the suspect began making racial insults towards him and other employees of color. The victim says the suspect started saying things like, "Go back to Chicago where you're from," while making racial slurs including the “n” word.
This was followed by the suspect spraying paint thinner at two of the aforementioned employees. He then threw the spray bottle at the primary victim hitting him in the face. Next the suspect grabbed a sharp piece of metal and started swinging it at the face of the 48-year-old man. The victim blocked the swings with his hand and suffered a puncture wound. At this point other employees broke up the attack. The suspect was arrested at his Fitchburg residence Tuesday evening (July 1st). During the arrest he struggled with officers and threatened to do harm to black and Mexican people. He was shouting about how “they” take the jobs.
