A | A | A

Posted Thursday, July 3rd --- 4:45pm

MADISON, Wis. (AP) -- The Public Service Commission of Wisconsin is approving requests by utilities to increase electric rates to cover the rising cost of fuel.

Both We Energies and Wisconsin Public Service Corp. sought the increases approved by the board on Thursday.

We Energies residential customers will see their electric rates rise by 4.1 percent, while Wisconsin Public Service residential customers will see their rates go up 5.2 percent.

The increase for We Energies customers translates into an extra $3.12 a month on the average homeowner's bill. The company says that includes a previous increase of $2.24 a month for fuel-related expenses.

Wisconsin Public Service customers will see, on average, their bills go up $2.74 a month. That number also includes a previous increase of $1.68 for fuel.

Everyone complains when prices go up, but, yet their usage doesn't go down. It's not just our government who is to blame for the rising prices, certain members of our society are to blame also. A couple years back when gas prices started to rise, a study showed American's were driving more, not less, showing that American's were willing to pay the high price's, instead of changing their life style. What I have seen in my own small town, a town, you can walk from one end to another. People drive instead of walking for a $1.39 soda from a convenience gas station, cars lined up outside of school to give their children rides home & to school, when they are capable of walking a couple of blocks. Drive to in town sports games, giving children rides to friends house's, Now where is the sense in all that? Plus, many do so in a big truck or SUV, head up high, smug, as if they are impressive, only we shake our heads thinking,YOU FOOL. We have become and are creating another very lazy generation.

This is getting rediculous!!! Come on, when are going to catch a break?? Maybe instead of raising prices, they should do as only a handful of other company's have done, cut the pay rate of the CEO's, instead they get raise's, unlike the rest of us. Intead of our Government worrying about a smoking ban, they should be working on real problems, real issues, people of the state are facing. There are numerous ways our government could limit or eliminate our dependency on coal and oil, but, instead they table the ideas. There is no excuse for the way our economy is, they have been warned for years that they needed to do something or the economy would be in crisis, did they listen, NO and who suffer's for our Government's ignorance, we do, NOT THEM. It's time to clean house within our government and elect people who will actually protect the American people. They could start by stop wasting money on a war, on another country, when it should be used to help our own country, our own people

Well gee this is sure a happy story. What good news, our already outrageous electric bill is only going to get worse. How are people expected to survive anymore?! Everything keeps going up up up except wages! Good Lord someone (meaning our government) needs to step it up and do something fast! Sheesh....

Pretty interesting. Food prices going up, groceries going up everything going up because of the gas prices going up. When will the federal government raise the citizens income accordingly, to cover all these increases? We all know they won't. They could all step in tho and make the gas and oil cartels come down to a decent price , but they won't, because they all have a hand in them.

why doesn't someone raise our wages to cover the rising cost of fuel?

That is what you get when you rely on coal! They really need to start working on a different source of of energy.
