Sun Prairie welcomed Jimmy the groundhog this morning, as he arrived in a white, stretch limousine to greet the hundreds of people hoping for an early spring.

Jimmy, the tenth in a line of groundhogs, did not see his shadow this morning and made his prediction for an early spring at about 7:10 a.m. as light snow fell from the sky.

Even though it's his first prognostication, the Mayor, who also serves as translator, is confident in his prediction.

"Our local historian has told me, Jimmy has been 100% accurate," says Joe Chase, Mayor of Sun Prairie. "It's the interpretation by the mayors that may have been a little bit off. But I've gotta say within these last 5 years, Jimmie and I have got a 100% record going."

PUNXSUTAWNEY, Pa. (AP) -- The groundhog has spoken. And it's bad news.

Punxsutawney Phil has emerged to see his shadow before chilly revelers in Pennsylvania, meaning winter will last another six weeks.

German tradition holds that if a hibernating animal sees its shadow on Feb. 2 -- the Christian holiday of Candlemas -- winter will last another six weeks. If no shadow is seen, legend says spring will come early.

The Inner Circle of the Punxsutawney Groundhog Club annually announces Phil's forecast at dawn on Gobbler's Knob, about 65 miles northeast of Pittsburgh.

Phil's announcement came before hundreds of onlookers who huddled as temperatures hovered in the teens.

The Groundhog Club says since 1887 Phil has predicted more winter weather by seeing his shadow nearly 100 times, but there are no records for nine years.

Look at how you all bash Gina for not liking GroundHog Day. Aren't all of you just as guilty as being as rude and stupid as you think she is?

It would seem many disagree with me, and that's fine. I don't agree with most of you, and that's what makes this country great. We don't have to agree. Groundhog day isn't just a Wisconsin tradition, and in my opinion, it is a silly tradition. Childhood isn't about fairy tales and fake holidays, BTW.. Brenda-yes my kids are well adjusted productive members of society. In college with good jobs. How many of us can say that these days...I would rather read news about real people who make positive contributions to society than to read about Groundhog Day. I never said I was better than anyone-don't put words in my mouth or text. Mandy-Madison is due north of where I'm at. While not native to Madison, I am a Wisconsin native. Don't worry folks- I won't post any more on this subject. So let's all just let it go....
