RIDGEWAY--Dianne and Gerald Lease tell us that they got a notice in the mail this fall saying they'd failed to pay a parking violation.
But the ticket was from Washington DC--and they say they were nowhere near there at the time.
They've continued receiving notices in the mail asking for payment--and the amount due keeps going up the longer they put-off paying it.
Dianne said at first she thought it was a scam, but then they reached out to the Iowa County Sheriff's Department for help. The Sheriff advised them that the ticket appeared to be real--then wrote a letter to the DC DMV adjudication services on behalf of the Leases, asking them to check out the Leases' explanation.
So far, it doesn't appear to have helped.
After they mailed in the letter from the sheriff, the Leases say they recently received another notice in the mail saying that the amount due is going up to $105, because they haven't paid the original ticket fine.
We called the DC DMV to find out what's going on with the Leases' case. We're told that the chief hearing examiner will contact them and will review their case on Monday.
